Somewhere, right now, a tree is crying

A truly dire situation is threatening my household: we are almost out of paper towels. Sure, sure, scoff all you like at what you think is an exaggeration, but things get pretty hairy when we have no paper towels. We use them for everything: as napkins, as kleenex, to clean the house, pick up hairballs, dry our hands, and (from time to time) to stop the bleeding. I have actually stopped buying the expensive Bounty paper towels because we were going through them so fast and it was starting to add up. Plus, with the thinner ones, I can tell myself fewer trees are dying because I've always suspected generic paper towels are actually made from recycled crackers. You know, this reminds me of a news story I saw one time about those ridiculously cheap people who actually reuse things like paper towels, paper plates, stuff like that. I vividly remember a woman hanging up rinsed off paper towels to dry so she could use them again. See, I'm cheap, but I'm not gross. Ewww.

Ew, reusing paper towels?? Gross! I have tried to be more conscious about how many I use, but I still buy the Bounty! I noticed I had to use 2 of the cheapies, so in the end, wasn't saving many trees or pennies!

I do like the select-a-size. Very handy. I probably should just go ahead and start using the thicker paper towels again because the generic tend to fall apart easily and that's no good when I'm cleaning the bathroom. Ick.

I have started becoming a bit of a germaphobe, so I've been using paper towels like crazy! So I understand the urgency of getting the Shifflets more paper towels right quick!

They biodegrade, right? That's what I always tell myself.

Hey, the last time I commented, my word verification was "fodwop." That's hilarious!

I just got the Target brand today. It says "Compare to Bounty" on the package...we'll see!

Let me know how the Target ones turn out, Anonymous. I'm always on the lookout for a cheaper alternative to my beloved Bounty.

You should try the new Kroger brand. They're super! Not the "Everyday" ones, they suck. The dimples on the good ones look like flowers. That's what I was using, but I ran out. Facing a paper towel dilema similar to yours I opted for the Target since I was there...will report back with my findings!!

For the sake of science, I went ahead and used a few sheets of a Target roll before my current roll was complete. I wanted to let you know how the Target brand worked ASAP.

So, at first, I was a little skeptical of the Target PTs. They had a thin, cheap, flimsy feeling, and they aren't very soft...I wouldn't recommend this brand doubling as a kleenex unless it's an emergency. However, I have to say that I was very impressed with the staying power of the towel.

After completely soaking a Target paper towel in water and squeezing, it did not dissolve in my hand when I pulled it open. I found various "stuff" to rub in my kitchen to test durability while wet, i.e.: some jelly on the counter from lunch, a scuff mark on the floor, a spot of dried chili from yesterday that my husband (and dog) missed. The towel took the beating with grace, and was still going strong when I called it quits. It also passed the toddler test, and got honey off of my daughter’s sticky fingers with ease. A dry towel sucked up condensation rings on the table like a champ, and also worked great removing the ceramic stove top cleaner.

I’d say the Target people aren’t just blowing smoke when they say “Compare to Bounty.” I’m pleased with the Target brand, and if you use PTs as much as you say you do, I’m sure you’ll find just what you’ve been missing in this store brand. I got an 8-pack for $5.99. I think the name brand was $6.74 for the 8-pack.

Happy Wiping!!!
